The Glacierized Landscapes (present & future) Illustrations depict some of the landscape characteristics associated with present and future glacier change. This illustration is the product of a March 2013 workshop supported by the AK CASC.

The vector illustration can be used as a PDF or opened and edited using Adobe Illustrator.

The Glacier Monitoring illustration simply depicts the linkages between glaciers, glacier change, and the ocean and how different parts of this system can be monitored. This illustration is the product of collaborations formed through AK CASC research projects.

The Icefield to Ocean illustration depicts the important linkages between glaciers, glacier change, and the ocean. This illustration is the product of collaborations formed in research projects and through a March 2013 workshop supported by the AK CASC. The figure is published in this publication.

Rates of glacier mass loss in the northern Pacific coastal temperate rainforest (PCTR) are among the highest on Earth, and changes in glacier volume and extent will affect the flow regime and chemistry of coastal rivers, as well as the nearshore marine ecosystem of the Gulf of Alaska.

The "From Icefield to Ocean Poster" depicts the important linkages between glaciers and the ocean. The product is a result of Alaska Climate Adaptation Science Center research projects and workshops.

"From Icefield to Ocean: Explore the many ways that glaciers influence Alaska's Coastal Ecosystems" is a 4-page publication that describes our current understanding of the interconnected icefield, stream, and ocean systems that are such a dominant feature of coastal Alaska. The publication describes the state of research on glaciers and icefields, glacier ecology, and the role that glaciers play in ocean processes.

For the Alaska Climate Adaptation Science Center (AK CASC), 2013 was a busy year marked by continued growth and further development of our research capacity and outreach activities.

Changing Ice is a biannual newsletter that highlights cryosphere-snow, ice, permafrost-and related research from around Alaska. In this issue, the featured stories include:

"Influence of Glaciers on Coastal Marine Ecology" is a presentation by Yumi Arimitsu of the U.S. Geological Survey

"Assessing the Impacts of Glacier Change in the Coastal Temperate Rainforest" was a presentation created after the Juneau Glacier Workshop for a public audience in Juneau, Alaska. It gives a borad overview of the various ways that glaciers interact with other parts of the coastal temperate rainforest.
